San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas is a fantastic weekend getaway spot with so much to offer, both historically and leisurely! It is big on being walker friendly, as it has plenty of sidewalks and a beautiful Riverwalk area. They also provide various events, shops, and restaurants along the riverside. The Alamo is a great historic place to visit and is not far from the Riverwalk, making it an easy stop. If you want to get the whole experience, boat tours are available along the river.

Close to the Riverwalk is the San Fernando Cathedral. It was founded in 1731 and is the oldest still-standing church building in Texas. Additionally, it makes a great short expedition during your trip. Don’t forget to stop by the Historic Market Square, the largest Mexican market outside of Mexico, where you can find fantastic places to eat, see live performances, shop for souvenirs, and take lots of pictures. There are a handful of other significant historical stops that are must-see spots. But if you’re all about a nightlife adventure, San Antonio has a wonderful variety of nightclubs for dancing, drinking, and having a good time. Meanwhile, the Riverwalk is lit up during the nighttime hours as well!

Dallas

As the third largest city in Texas, Dallas is one of the biggest Texas weekend getaways! Whether you’re into florals or not, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a popular stop. It boasts 66 acres of gorgeous seasonal blooms, manicured lawns, and various events and activities. It’s the perfect spot for the ultimate travel pics! Dallas has a few historical sites of its own, including one of Bonnie and Clyde’s hangout spots, the Bishop Arts District. You can also stop by for a show at the Texas Theatre, which has been operational since 1931 and is where JFK’s killer was arrested after not paying for his ticket! It is full of many other great spots, including museums, dessert shops, restaurants, and more. Dallas is a great Texas weekend getaway, just less walker-friendly since it is so large!

Waco

Becoming more popular recently thanks to HGTV, Waco is full of culture and history, with plenty to do! Getting its name from the original settlers, a Wichita Indigenous tribe known as “Waco,” this town is full of museums and historical monuments that are quite a sight to see on your getaway! A pretty cool site to visit is the Waco Mammoth National Monument, where the fossils of 24 mammoths have been uncovered and kept as a paleontological site for visitors. Offering more historical learning opportunities, you can tour a large selection of buildings, homes, and museums within Waco that pay homage to Texas’ history and values.

For shopping, Spice Village is a collection of over 60 boutique shops. They are wonderful to walk through everything from home decor to little trinkets perfect for gifts! There is a shop for everyone here, both within the Spice Village and at the Richland Mall and various thrift and antique shops. Let’s not forget the wineries and draft houses that are perfect for a relaxing sip and bite to eat! There are endless things to do in Waco, Texas, from horseback riding to museum tours, perfect for a weekend (or longer!) getaway!
